As part of the events celebrating the first anniversary
of the opening of the Onojo Cocoro-no-furusato-kan City Museum,
members of Kyushu University’s Chikushi Campus, which is partially
located in Onojo City, held a science fair for children on July 23.

Researchers from Kyushu University and the University of Pittsburgh
have created miniature human livers exhibiting fatty liver disease
through the genetic engineering of skin cells.

“To develop the most effective preventive measures, we need a deep
understanding of the source and living conditions of the bacteria,”
says Yoshitoshi Ogura, associate professor at Kyushu University’s

*Thermoelectric performance of graphene gets a boost

The collaborative work by Kyushu University, Tohoku University,
and Purdue University not only demonstrates the ability to separately
tune electrical and thermal conductivity at an unprecedented level
but also indicates that graphene is a very promising non-toxic,
low-cost, light-weight, and flexible thermoelectric material for powering
small-scale smart devices with heat.
