Dr. Tsuyoshi Okamoto, Associate Professor at the Faculty of
Arts and Science, and Mr. Hamakawa Masayuki, a student at the
Graduate School of Systems Life Sciences performed an olfacto
ry psychophysical experiment where the pleasantness was defin
ed as instinctive and innate emotion, and the liking was done
as experience-based and acquired emotion.

A collaborative team of scientists from many research institut
es and universities across Japan have now mapped the entire ge
nome of the Okinawan habu, including the genes involved in ven

*Ultra-high sensitive detection of organic gases using micro-
sized gas sensors

The group of Prof. Kengo Shimanoe, Assoc. Prof. Ken Watanabe
and Assis. Prof. Koichi Suematsu has succeeded in ultra-high
sensitive gas detection in ppd level of volatile organic com
pounds (VOCs) by collaboration with Figaro Engineering Inc.

*Technetium-98 nuclear cosmochronometer synthesized by super
nova neutrinos

At the present study, first, it was found the possibility that
98Tc may be synthesized by the neutrino process. Next, the exp
ected 98Tc abundance was calculated using a supernova explosio
n model with the neutrino-nucleus interactions involved.

ent with a citrus-like smell, decanal to reveal whether there
is olfactory modulation of colour working memory.
