Dr. Hiroyuki Sasaki, Distinguished Professor of the Medical
Institute of Bioregulation, Dean of the Institute for Advanced
Study, and Senior Vice President of Kyushu University, has rec
eived the Uehara Prize 2018.

To address how a large amount of GTP is supplied to the division
site, Professor Yukio Fujiki at the Medical Institute of Bioregu
lation, Kyushu University and JSPS research fellow Yuta Imoto, a
long with a team of researchers that include Assistant Professor
Okumoto Kanji from the faculty of Science, Kyushu University and
Visiting Professor Kuroiwa Tsuneyoshi from Japan Women's Univers
ity used as a best model system a unicellular red alga, Cyanidio
schyzon merolae, that contains a single each of mitochondrion, p
eroxisome, and plastid.
*Direct reprogramming of microglia into functional neurons by
a single transcription factor,NeuroD1

The research group led by Drs. Matsuda and Nakashima from the Gra
duate School of Medical Sciences, Kyushu University succeeded to
convert neurons from mouse microglia by expression of a single tr
anscription factor, NeuroD1.
