*JTW 29th class Closing Ceremony on July 26th
~~~~~~~~~~

Kyushu University held the Closing Ceremony for the Japan in Today's World (JTW) program on July 26, 2023, at the Inamori Center, Ito Campus. The JTW program offers a unique opportunity for international students to deepen their understanding of Japan through courses on Japanese society, culture, and history taught in English, as well as through the Japanese language classes and study trips. This semester, 60 students from 37 universities in 16 countries/regions participated in the JTW program.

* Visiting the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS) and the Mongolian-Japan Hospital (MJH)

From August 6 to 11, 2023, endoscopists, surgeons, radiologists, pathologists, oncologists, and clinical engineers from Kyushu University visited the Mongolian-Japan Hospital (MJH) to observe and provide medical guidance. This is the second year of the project “Human Resource Development for Treatment of Gastrointestinal Diseases in Mongolia” to promote international health cooperation with the National Center of Global Health and Medicine.

* Kyushu U becomes first university in Japan to receive prestigious Getty grant for art history project

Kyushu University has been awarded a prestigious grant from the Getty Foundation’s Connecting Art Histories initiative for a newly-launched project “Shared Coasts, Divided Historiographies”. Kyushu University is the first academic institution in Japan ever to receive a grant from Getty.

* Monument design competition launched to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the founding of the Faculty of Law and Letters

In 2024, Kyushu University will celebrate the momentous 100th anniversary of the founding of the Faculty of Law and Letters, the precursor to the current four Faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences. In the run-up to 2024, Kyushu University has launched a 100th anniversary project, with a series of events planned to commemorate the founding. As part of this project, we are calling for submission for a design of a new monument, which will be displayed in East Zone of Ito Campus as a permanent piece of public art.

Palagummi Sainath is a spirited journalist who continues to tell the issues of rural India.Since the world is rapidly changing, the social role of journalism is being called into question once again. *The Fujii Gallery exhibit: Kyushu University and Former Faculty of Engineering Main Building
~~~~~~~~~~

In March 2023, the modern buildings of the former Kyushu Imperial University (now Kyushu University Hakozaki Satellite), including the main building of the former Faculty of Engineering, were designated as the first registered tangible cultural properties of Kyushu University.
This exhibition introduces the history of the former main building of the Faculty of Engineering, the valuable Kranz specimens and engineering materials and models (Ashio Copper Mine-related materials, rock drill models, etc.), the General Research Museum and Archives, and the current status of the Faculty of Engineering.
