Clarivate Analytics has named Prof. Toshihiko Takemura
(Research Institute for Applied Mechanics) and Prof. Chihaya Adachi
(Faculty of Engineering) as 2018 Highly Cited Researchers and presented
them with certificates honoring this recognition
on April 23, 2019, at Kyushu University.

By using marine sediment cores from Northwestern Australia,
a Japanese team led by National Institute of Polar Research (NIPR)
and the University of Tokyo revealed that the global ice sheet during
the last ice age had changed in a shorter time scale than previously thought.

Researchers from Japan have demonstrated that a long-elusive
kind of laser diode based on organic semiconductors is indeed possible,
paving the way for the further expansion of lasers in applications such
as biosensing, displays, healthcare, and optical communications.

*Dormant egg cells successfully obtained from mouse stem cells in the lab

Researchers at Kyushu University’s Department of Stem Cell Biology
and Medicine have uncovered the conditions necessary to successfully
recreate dormant egg cells from mouse stem cells, providing useful
insight for the further understanding and development of reproductive
biology and medicine.

“Based on our findings, we can state that there is no
‘one-size-fits all’ policy approach that will solve health,
economic inequality, life satisfaction, or income level issues,”

Researchers at Kyushu University and Ehime University,
in collaboration with a researcher from the United Kingdom,
have described a new beetle species in Japan, marking the first time
that an insect of the genus Airaphilus has been found on the island country.
