* Understanding the Epigenetic Mechanisms Behind Premature Aging of the Brain
~~~~~~~~~~
Ikoma, Japan—Age often brings a gradual decline in the ability to learn new things and retain memories. This phenomenon, often associated with the elderly, is linked to the brain's deteriorating capacity to generate new neurons—a process that primarily occurs in the hippocampus —as neural stem cells (NSCs) divide and mature. Recent research suggests this decline begins much earlier in life than previously thought, potentially starting in early adulthood.
* Visualizing the Mechanics of Hormone-Driven Gene Activation: Insights into Breast Cancer
~~~~~~~~~~
Kanazawa, Japan—Scientists at Kanazawa University's Nano Life Science Institute (WPI-NanoLSI) including Professor Masaharu Hazawa of Kyushu University's Faculty of Science, have captured real-time footage showing how a key hormone receptor activates genes, offering a clearer view into one of the most fundamental processes in biology.

* Dual-Function Organic Molecule May Advance Display Technologies and Medical Imaging
~~~~~~~~~~
Organic molecules that combine efficient light emission for displays and strong light absorption for bioimaging are difficult to design due to conflicting structural requirements. Researchers from Japan addressed this challenge by developing CzTRZCN, a single molecule that switches structure depending on light interaction, enabling both two-photon absorption and thermally activated delayed fluorescence. These dual functions are useful in OLEDs and biomedical imaging, paving the way for versatile organic materials in electronics, medicine, and life sciences.
* Researchers succeed in building a low temperature hydrogen fuel cell, thanks to a scandium superhighway
~~~~~~~~~~
Solid-oxide fuel cells are a promising material for future green energy infrastructure due to their high efficiency and long lifespan. However, they require operation at high temperatures of around 700-800℃. Now researchers at Kyushu University have succeeded in developing a new SOFC material with an efficient operating temperature of 300℃. The team expects that their new findings will greatly accelerate the practical application of green energy devices.
