*An American debate team visited Kyushu University Ito Campus as their first stop in the 2023 tour
~~~~~~~~~~

Since 1995, Kyushu University has hosted many American debate teams under the auspices of the JDA (Japan Debate Association) and the NCA-CIDD (National Communication Association, Committee on International Discussion and Debate). While 2021 and 2022 featured online tours due to the global pandemic, the 2023 tour of the American team chose Ito campus as their first stop as this tradition resumed.

*Kyushu University team won the championship in the 20th Exchange Debate Contest
~~~~~~~~~~

In the 20th anniversary tournament, the “Exchange Debate Contest”, twelve teams from high schools and universities gathered to debate the topic “Resolved: that the Japanese government should legalize gestational surrogacy” in two preliminary rounds. Kurume High School team A and Kyushu University team C reached the final and the Kyushu University team won the tournament.

*Unveiling Japan's ancient practice of cranial modification: The case of the Hirota people in Tanegashima
~~~~~~~~~~

A team of biological anthropologists and archaeologists from Kyushu University and the University of Montana have broken new ground in our understanding on the practice of intentional cranial modification, a practice found in numerous ancient civilizations around the world. The team reports that the Hirota people, who lived on the southern Japanese island of Tanegashima around the 3rd century to 7th century CE, also partook in the practice.

*The Fujii Gallery exhibit: Kyushu University and Former Faculty of Engineering Main Building

In March 2023, the modern buildings of the former Kyushu Imperial University (now Kyushu University Hakozaki Satellite), including the main building of the former Faculty of Engineering, were designated as the first registered tangible cultural properties of Kyushu University.
This exhibition introduces the history of the former main building of the Faculty of Engineering, the valuable Kranz specimens and engineering materials and models (Ashio Copper Mine-related materials, rock drill models, etc.), the General Research Museum and Archives, and the current status of the Faculty of Engineering.
