*Students combine art and science to design Kyushu's first large hydrogen bus
~~~~~~~~~~
A new hydrogen fuel cell bus – the first large bus of its kind in Kyushu – will take to the streets in November, and students from Kyushu University will be giving it an iconic look. Two student teams from the Graduate School of Design and the Graduate School of Integrated Frontier Science competed for the chance to design a new hydrogen fuel cell bus.

* Kyushu University and National Taiwan University sign strategic partnership agreement

On September 25, 2023, Kyushu University and National Taiwan University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for strategic partnership. * COIL+ Program “Learning and thinking about SDGs onsite in Korea ~Agricultural economics~

From June 23 to September 8, 2023, the Faculty of Agriculture, Kyushu University conducted the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) + Program, “Learning and thinking about SDGs onsite in Korea ~Agricultural economics~ “. It is a unique international training program for agriculture students, in which students learn together with students from overseas universities through online training, followed by on-the-job training in a foreign country.

*16 strange new parasitoid wasp species discovered in Vietnam

Researchers at Kyushu University and Vietnam's National Museum of Nature have discovered 16 new species of Loboscelidia, a strange-looking and elusive group of parasitoid wasps. The scientists also reported for the first time the unique parasitic behavior of a captive female of one species, Loboscelidia squamosa, who was observed digging a hole in the soil to hide her host’s egg.

*Investigating the role of greener plastics for Japan’s carbon neutral goals

While plastic pollution is a well-known cause for concern, an often-overlooked issue is how plastics contribute to global warming. Joint research between Kyushu University and Yokohama-based start-up company, Sotas Co., Ltd, has investigated the potential for Japan's market to incorporate a greener plastic supply chain.

*Converting brain immune cells into neurons helps mice recover after stroke
~~~~~~~~~~
Researchers at Kyushu University have discovered that turning brain immune cells into neurons successfully restores brain function after stroke-like injury in mice. These findings, published on October 10 in PNAS, suggest that replenishing neurons from immune cells could be a promising avenue for treating stroke in humans.

*The Fujii Gallery exhibit: Kyushu University and Former Faculty of Engineering Main Building

In March 2023, the modern buildings of the former Kyushu Imperial University (now Kyushu University Hakozaki Satellite), including the main building of the former Faculty of Engineering, were designated as the first registered tangible cultural properties of Kyushu University.
This exhibition introduces the history of the former main building of the Faculty of Engineering, the valuable Kranz specimens and engineering materials and models (Ashio Copper Mine-related materials, rock drill models, etc.), the General Research Museum and Archives, and the current status of the Faculty of Engineering.
