*Sika Deer Overpopulation Endangers Beech Forests in Southern Kyushu, Japan

Kyushu University researchers have found that beech trees in the forests of southern Kyushu have seen reduced growth, due to soil erosion caused by the overpopulation of sika deer (Cervus nippon). Their findings, which were published in the journal Catena, could help in the development of new strategies for forest conservation.

*Japan's electric vehicle transition by 2035 may be insufficient to combat the climate crisis, but there are solutions

Researcher at Kyushu University have found that Japan's current policy of stopping the sale of gas vehicles by 2035 and transitioning only to hybrids and electrical vehicles may be insufficient to reduce the country's CO2 emissions and prevent it from reaching its decarbonization target goals. In fact, emissions may temporarily increase.

*New adhesive tape picks up and sticks down 2D materials as easily as child's play

A research team from Kyushu University, in collaboration with Japanese company Nitto Denko, have developed a tape that can be used to stick 2D materials to many different surfaces, in an easy and user-friendly way. Their findings were published in Nature Electronics on February 9, 2024.
