*Kyushu University Hospital wins Quality Achievements Award 2023

Kyushu University Hospital has been selected for the Quality Achievements Award 2023 by the European Society for Quality Research (ESQR), headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland. This prestigious award, honoring organizations demonstrating continual improvements and exceptional outcomes in quality management, was presented at an awards ceremony in Dubai on December 10, 2023.

*2024 Korea-Japan Youth Leaders Forum held at Kyushu University

On January 24, 2024, Kyushu University welcomed a delegation of around 50 people from Korea and hosted the 2024 Korea-Japan Youth Leaders Forum to facilitate student exchange between the two countries. This forum has been held annually for over 20 years, but this was the first time it was hosted at Kyushu University.

*Kyushu University holds signing ceremony for double degree program agreement with University of Technology Malaysia

On Friday, February 2, 2024, a signing ceremony for a double degree master’s program agreement was held at Chikushi Campus, Kyushu University. This collaborative agreement was made between Kyushu University’s Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences (IGSES), and the University of Technology Malaysia’s (UTM) Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.

*Donation ceremony held on the occasion of the establishment of the Tokuo Fujii Research Fund

In a donation ceremony held on December 20, 2023, at Ito Campus, Mr. Fujii formally presented his donation to President Tatsuro Ishibashi. The Tokuo Fujii Research Fund, established through this donation, aims to produce Nobel laureates affiliated with Kyushu University by supporting innovative research using dividends from the donated shares.

*Kyushu University Welcomes Vietnamese President Vo Van Thuong to Ito Campus

On November 30, 2023, H.E. Mr. Vo Van Thuong, President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, made a visit to Kyushu University's Ito Campus. President Thuong was visiting Japan to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam.

*Kyushu University enhances strategic partnership with National Taiwan University and University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

*Turning skin cells into limb cells sets the stage for regenerative therapy
~~~~~~~~~~

In a collaborative study, researchers from Kyushu University and Harvard Medical School have identified proteins that can turn or “reprogram” fibroblasts — the most commonly found cells in skin and connective tissue — into cells with similar properties to limb progenitor cells.

*Satoshi Utsunomiya named Clair C. Patterson Medalist and Geochemistry Fellow

Satoshi Utsunomiya, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, will be honored with the 2024 Clair C. Patterson Award. This accolade recognizes innovative breakthroughs of fundamental significance in environmental geochemistry within the past decade, especially those serving society. He will become the second Japanese scientist to receive this esteemed award.
