**Research
------------------------------------------------------------
* Investigating the underlying mechanisms of magnetic reconnection in space weather events
~~~~~~~~~~
Magnetic reconnection, a phenomenon in which magnetic fields in a plasma rapidly rearrange and release energy, is thought to drive explosive cosmic events such as solar flares. In a recent study, researchers from Japan used high-power lasers to recreate this process under controlled conditions and track its evolution. Their results showed that, despite substantially different plasma conditions, reconnection proceeded at a similar rate, suggesting that this rate is primarily governed by local physics in the reconnection region.
* A new metal-free and water-soluble molecule that can produce fluorescence and be used as MRI contrast material
~~~~~~~~~~
A research team led by Kyushu University has developed a new water-soluble and metal-free molecule that could be detected by both fluorescence imaging and utilized as an MRI contrast agent. The team modified the luminescent organic radical tris(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl) methyl (TTM) to make it water-soluble. The new molecule produced deep-red fluorescence in water and enhanced the contrast of MRI phantom images by approximately 2.5 to 4.5 times stronger than that of previously reported water-soluble TTM radicals.

* How to head into VR without wearing a headset
~~~~~~~~~~
Researchers at Kyushu University have developed a VR system that requires no head-worn device. Using aerial imaging optics, the system presents stereoscopic imagery to both eyes, letting users enter a VR environment simply by sitting down. By removing the weight of a headset and moving image processing outside the wearable device, the system could enable more comfortable, longer VR use. The researchers expect it to find applications in remote operation, healthcare, education, and entertainment.
