* Yogurt and hot spring bathing show a promising combination for gut health
~~~~~~~~~~
While both yogurt and hot spring bathing have been reported to positively influence the gut environment, the health effects of their combination had not been investigated. The researchers demonstrated that combining yogurt intake with hot spring bathing may have even greater beneficial effects on the gut microbiota and defecation status than yogurt alone.
* As the atmosphere changes, so will its response to geomagnetic storms
~~~~~~~~~~

Rising concentrations of carbon dioxide in the upper atmosphere will change the way geomagnetic storms impact Earth, with potential implications for thousands of orbiting satellites, according to new research led by scientists at the US. National Science Foundation National Center for Atmospheric Research (NSF NCAR) in collaboration with Kyushu University.

* Boosting fuel cell efficiency with water vapor
~~~~~~~~~~
Hydration significantly boosts ion conductivity in Ba7Nb4MoO20, a promising ceramic electrolyte candidate for low-temperature solid oxide fuel cells. But its origin and mobile ionic species were unresolved issues. Researchers at Institute of Science Tokyo, in collaboration with Kyushu University, found that exposure to water vapor enhances oxide-ion mobility by increasing interstitial oxygen ions, nearly doubling the oxide-ion conductivity at 500 °C. The findings of this study could advance the development of efficient and durable fuel cells for clean energy applications.
* Scientists create a mathematical model that explains esophageal motility disorders
~~~~~~~~~~

Researchers at Kyushu University in Japan have developed a mathematical model that recreates the muscle movements of the esophagus that occur during swallowing. The model, reported in Royal Society Open Science, also replicates muscle dynamics seen in various esophageal motility disorders, revealing insights into their underlying causes and opening up new avenues for treatment.
