*From robots to living things: A multidisciplinary biologist strives to uncover the mysteries of the biological clock
~~~~~~~~~~
We've all had the experience of staying up late and not being able to wake up the next morning. This difficulty arises due to a shift in what's known as our biological clock, which is the central theme of Associate Professor Hiroshi Ito's research at Kyushu University's Faculty of Design. We spoke with Ito to explore the advantages of cross-disciplinary studies and to discover how he uses his expertise in robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and engineering to understand the true nature of the biological clock.
*A new therapeutic target offers a promising pathway for multiple sclerosis treatment
~~~~~~~~~~

Researchers from Kyushu University have identified a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of advanced multiple sclerosis (MS), a potentially disabling condition associated with the central nervous system. In their latest study, conducted using an experimental mouse model of MS, they explored the role of connexin 43 (Cx43), a protein involved in cellular communication and cardiac function, and examined whether targeting this protein with specific blockers could improve MS symptoms.

*Tiny flyers with large impact: Blowflies carry bird flu virus
~~~~~~~~~~
Researchers from Kyushu University have discovered that blowflies, a family of flies strongly attracted to decaying flesh and feces, are carrying the bird flu virus in southern Japan. Their findings, published in Scientific Reports, introduce a potential new route of transmission for bird flu and highlight the need to develop new countermeasures to prevent and control the disease in poultry farms.
*First measurement of electron- and muon-neutrino interaction rates at the highest energy ever detected from an artificial source
~~~~~~~~~~

Understanding neutrino interactions is crucial for obtaining a complete picture of particle physics and the universe. To date, neutrino interaction cross sections have not been measured at high energy above some hundred gigaelectronvolts at particle colliders. Now, researchers have obtained the first direct observation of electron and muon neutrino interactions in the Teraelectronvolt range at CERN's Large Hadron Collider, using the FASERν detector. This study marks a significant step for particle physics research, enhancing our understanding of the universe.
