Kyushu University reflects on and renews its commitment to safety
every year around October 1, which has been designated Safety Day
in response to an incident on September 2016, when a first-year student
drowned during class-related activities in Yakushima Island, Kagoshima.
As part of this commitment this year, a two-part lecture was held on
Ito Campus on October 24 and broadcast live to the Hospital Campus,
Ohashi Campus, and Chikushi Campus.

Awards for Outstanding Kyushu University Female Researchers

Female researchers at Kyushu University were honored for their research
achievements in areas ranging from biology,
robotics, and astrophysics to language and law with Sanae-I.
Itoh Awards for Outstanding Kyushu University Female Researchers at
a ceremony held at Shiiki Hall on Saturday, October 19,
during the Kyushu University Academic Festival 2019.

At the 5th Library Reference Service Awards on November 12,
the Kyushu University Library received the Library Advancement
Foundation Award for its web-based learning guide, "Cute.Guides."

On November 25, 2019, Kyushu University and United Arab Emirates
University (UAEU), concluded an academic cooperation agreement to
promote staff and student exchange and joint research between
the two universities.

*Academic leaders gather in Fukuoka for QS-APPLE 2019

Over 700 people from nearly 40 countries gathered in Fukuoka
from November 26 through 28 for QS-APPLE 2019 to share and develop
ideas on dealing with a changing society and to build strategic
connections across oceans-and right at the center of it all was
Kyushu University as organizing partner.

*Seeing perovskites in a new light:
Management of energetic excitons shown to be key for efficient
light-emitting diodes with the low-cost materials

An international team of researchers led by Kyushu University has
discovered the mechanism preventing efficient light emission from
a class of low-cost materials and devised a strategy to overcome it,
demonstrating highly efficient emission of green light from devices
using the materials.
