*Kyushu University Forum “KYUDAI NOW” held in Hanoi, Vietnam

On September 27, 2023, Kyushu University Institute for Asian and Oceanian Studies held the Kyushu University Forum "KYUDAI NOW" in Hanoi, Vietnam at the Army Hotel. This was the first time KYUDAI NOW was held in Vietnam. The forum consisted of a symposium and a dinner reception. In the symposium, eight speakers from Kyushu University delivered presentations to an audience of approximately 90 people.

*Kyushu U delegation participates in MIRAI 2.0 Research & Innovation Week 2023

From November 13-16, 2023, Kyushu University participated in the Research and Innovation Week 2023 hosted by Umeå University in Sweden. The event is one of the main activities of MIRAI 2.0, which is a collaboration between 20 Japanese and Swedish universities, including Kyushu University. From Kyushu University, a 22-member delegation participated in a series of meetings and workshops.

*International Debate Camp resumes in-person activities

On August 23-27, 2023, after three years of online "camp" via Zoom, the 12th International Debate Camp in Japanese was held in-person at Yamanoie (Kyushu University Kuju Training Center) and Kuju Joint Training Center for National Universities in Kyushu Area. The event combined lectures, group work, and the practice tournament for Asian students to learn to debate in Japanese as their first, second, or third language.

*Kyushu U moves up in Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024

On December 5, Quacquarelli Symonds announced the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2024 for the second year to show how universities are taking action to tackle the world's greatest environmental, social and governance (ESG) challenges. Kyushu U was ranked 170th out of 1,403 institutions, placing 5th among Japanese universities.

* A new diagnostic tool to identify and treat pathological social withdrawal, Hikikomori

Researchers at Kyushu University have developed a new tool to help clinicians and researchers assess individuals for pathological social withdrawal, known as Hikikomori. The tool, called Hikikomori Diagnostic Evaluation, or HiDE, can be a practical guide on collecting information on this globally growing pathology.
