* Clouding the forecast: study reveals why so many climate models are wrong about the rate of Arctic warming
~~~~~~~~~~
The Arctic is one of the coldest places on Earth, but in recent decades, the region has been rapidly warming, at a rate three to four times faster than the global average. However, current climate models have been unable to account for this increased pace. Now, researchers from Kyushu University have reported in a study, published April 29 in Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Research, that clouds may be to blame.
* A new model to accurately develop better OLEDs
~~~~~~~~~~
Understanding the fundamental energy configuration of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials, the key material that make OLEDs, is critical in developing new more advanced OLEDs. However, current analytical methods have been occasionally unreliable due to its inherent subjectivity and conditional assumptions. Now, researchers have developed a new analytical model that details the kinetics and state dynamics of excitons in TADF materials.

* Scientists discover the 'ticking' mechanism driving nature's simplest circadian clock
~~~~~~~~~~
Aichi, Japan—Researchers from the Institute for Molecular Science (IMS)/SOKENDAI and Kyushu University have uncovered the molecular mechanism that drives the "ticking" of the circadian clock in cyanobacteria. Their study reveals how a clock protein called KaiC controls chemical reactions with remarkable precision, acting like the hand of a clock that waits, then moves at just the right moment.
* Chromosomes and spindles in mature oocytes are stabilized by the histone modification
~~~~~~~~~~
One of the causes of infertility is abnormal chromosome function in oocytes. New research from Kyushu University has revealed an unexpected novel function of the histone modification H3K4me3: stabilizing chromosomes and spindles in mature mouse oocytes.

* We provide support to help students currently enrolled in or planning to study at U.S. universities continue their education
~~~~~~~~~~
Due to the recent suspension of international student admissions at universities in the United States, many students currently enrolled or planning to study there are experiencing uncertainty and concern. In response, Kyushu University is committed to supporting the academic continuity of ambitious and talented students from diverse backgrounds. By fostering an environment where they can freely pursue academic inquiry, we aim to empower them to contribute to the university's strategic goal of "international collaboration" as outlined in the Kyushu University VISION 2030.
