from December 28, 2019, to January 3, 2020, by advancing to the
Grand Finals in the English as a Foreign Language category.

released March 24, placed Kyushu University 5th out of nearly 760

On January 31, 2020, Prof. Akira Yoshino was honored with the title
of Distinguished University Professor in a ceremony at Kyushu University,
after which he presented a special lecture at the Shiiki Concert Hall
in commemoration of his Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

*When oxygen attacks
Genome-wide screening identifies novel cellular defense mechanisms
against toxic and dangerous reactive oxygen species

A collaborative effort by researchers at Kyushu University and
Stanford University now sheds new light on these defense mechanisms
in a paper published in Cell Reports, highlighting potential genes
that could be targeted in the future to treat or prevent certain diseases.

*Revisiting what defines hikikomori as cases rise internationally

To better understand, define, and treat hikikomori, Dr. Takahiro Kato
and his colleagues established the Mood Disorder/Hikikomori Research
Clinic at the Kyushu University Hospital, where they have been working
with patients suffering from hikikomori and their families and
developing new methods of support.
